Lindsay Woolf’s Favorite Breakfast Spots in Southern California

Southern California is known for its sunshine and surf, but the breakfast scene here deserves its own spotlight. Whether you’re craving a classic breakfast sandwich, a gourmet burrito, or a unique latte, SoCal has it all. Here are a few of my go-to breakfast spots, each with its own unique vibe and specialties!

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Bread and Bagel
This cozy spot does bagels right. I usually go for a plain bagel toasted with American bacon, egg, and cheddar cheese. It’s simple but perfectly satisfying and ideal for grabbing on the go.

Uncle Bill’s Pancake House
A local favorite, Uncle Bill’s has a relaxed, beachy vibe and the kind of breakfast you want to savor. Their French toast combo is a must-try—fluffy, golden, and served with all the classic fixings. It’s the perfect way to start the day, especially if you’re heading for a stroll along the beach afterward.

Verve Coffee
For something a bit lighter, Verve offers beautifully crafted drinks like the honey lavender draft latte (my favorite) and a well-executed avocado toast. Their cappuccino is also fantastic for a quick pick-me-up. It’s the perfect spot for a slow, sunny morning.

GoodBoyBob Coffee Roasters
If you’re in the mood for a unique coffee experience, goodboybob is a fantastic choice. Their dirty chai latte, matcha latte, and flat white are all worth trying, and each has a distinct, smooth flavor that pairs well with a relaxed morning.

Paradise Bowls
If you’re in the mood for something fruity and refreshing, the Peach Bum bowl here is fantastic, loaded with fresh ingredients and perfect for a post-beach workout snack.

Le Pain Quotidien
Their steel-cut oatmeal with honey, walnuts, banana, maple syrup, and milk is a wholesome, filling option and a lovely way to start a relaxed morning.

Hermosa Beach

The Green Store
If you’re in the mood for something hearty, the Green Store’s bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant hits the spot. It’s a hidden gem with a simple, delicious menu, ideal for fueling up before a beach day.

Baran’s 2239
Baran’s chorizo burrito is famous—and for a good reason! They sell out early, so it’s best to call ahead. Each bite is packed with flavor, making it worth the extra effort to get your hands on one.

Hawthorne

Urth Caffé
Known for its cozy atmosphere and organic offerings, Urth Caffé serves up delicious buttermilk pancakes and an extensive menu that has something for everyone.

Redondo Beach

Sweet Wheat Bakery
Honestly, everything on the menu here is worth trying! From fresh pastries to savory breakfast items, this bakery has it all.

El Segundo

Wendy’s Place Café
This little café offers a cozy, friendly atmosphere and a great French Toast Special. It’s the kind of breakfast that feels homemade, which adds to its charm.

The Coffee Bar
For coffee lovers, The Coffee Bar is a must. Their lattes are fantastic, but I especially love that they serve crepes on Thursdays and breakfast burritos on Saturdays. It’s a fun spot with something different to look forward to each week.

Southwest Bread
Known for its delicious biscuits with honey butter, this place is worth calling ahead, as they often sell out early. These biscuits are perfectly buttery with a touch of sweetness that keeps you coming back for more.

Venice

Flake
Their Bubba’s Basic breakfast is simple but delicious—a solid go-to for a classic breakfast done right.

Gjusta Bakery
This bakery offers something for everyone, with fresh, quality ingredients in every dish. The whole menu is fantastic, so go with an appetite and be ready to explore. It’s a popular spot, so get there early to grab a seat and enjoy the laid-back Venice atmosphere.

Santa Monica

Thyme Café
Thyme Café serves an excellent mix of breakfast options. Try their muffins, scones, or the roasted tomatillo breakfast burrito for a bit of a spicy kick in the morning. A delightful blend of flavors and textures!

Santa Barbara

The Daily Grind
A great spot for early risers, The Daily Grind has a killer breakfast burrito that’s worth the drive. It’s a solid choice for anyone looking for a filling breakfast, whether you’re headed out for a day of activities or just want to enjoy the morning with a good meal.

Blenders in the Grass
For a lighter, refreshing option, Blenders in the Grass offers smoothies with creative blends. My go-to is the Red Banana, made with non-fat milk, strawberries, banana, and ice milk. It’s smooth, refreshing, and perfect for a beach day.

Cajun Kitchen Café
If you’re craving a heartier breakfast, try the biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash with eggs, or Belgian waffles. This spot serves Southern comfort food with a California twist!

Carpinteria

Jack’s Bistro & Famous Bagels
The Jack’s B-Eggl is a breakfast sandwich that really hits the spot. It’s hearty, simple, and packed with flavor—a perfect way to start the day if you’re in Carpinteria.

Each of these breakfast spots offers something unique and delicious, making them worth a visit. So, next time you’re in the area, stop by and discover why these places have become my go-to favorites. Happy breakfast hunting!
